Asynchronous generators are used to recover braking energy back into the system (“regenerative braking”), as well as to generate electrical energy. Speed and power factor are independent of this.
In order to generate energy, the asynchronous generator requires a supply network (grid-excited asynchronous generator) or a parallel-connected capacitor bank in isolated operation (capacitor-excited or self-excited asynchronous generator).
