Sonne Deap sea research vessel
In November 2012, the successor to the German deep sea research vessel "Sonne" was laid down at Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde, a sister company of Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The new "Sonne" replaces the aged identically named research vessel, which was built in 1968 and is still in service. It is slightly larger, more modern equipped and environmentally friendly. With latest methods, the scientists on the new expedition ship are able to find answers in the deep sea to questions about the origin of life, raw materials, causes of environmental damage or new approaches in biotechnology.
